Next Generation: Creating a Pipeline for Democratic Leadership

Dear Members of the Maryland Democratic Central Committee -

It has been a pleasure serving alongside Delegates Heather Murizur, Glen Middleton and Greg Pecoraro for the last 12 years as one of your DNC representatives. While I will miss attending the various DNC meetings and advocating for greater involvement of women and minorities in the party, I am very excited about the crop of future leaders we have coming down the pipeline.

I am writing you today about one of those leaders, Nicole Williams from Prince George’s County.  I have had the pleasure to see Nicole grow and blossom over the years. I took Nicole under my wing when she became a member of the DNC youth council and encouraged her to run for the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee. Today I am asking you to stand with Nicole and elect her to the Democratic National Committee.

We are always quick to call on young people to knock on doors or volunteer on campaigns. But we never think of them as leaders within our community or the future of our Party. It is time that we acknowledge that there are young folks within our party who are ready to lead and make room for them at the table. We cannot continue to sit here and die in these positions and then wonder why there isn't anyone around to replace us. I have enjoyed the past 12 years, but it is time for me to let the next generation of Democrats move our party forward.

I ask that you join me in supporting Nicole Williams for the DNC.

Sincerely,
Karren Pope-Onwukwe, DNC Member
